So, cory and i are in santa cruz right now... Our trip so far has been pretty amazing. The first night we were on the road we were in some dinky town outside of portland warming up in a gas station before bed when we ran into a bunch of kids who asked us if we were headed to pirate fest. We said we didnapos;t know what they were talking about, but they wound up letting us hop in their car and ride over there with them. We wound up getting in for free because they had friends in a band that was playing and got some free booze and a raging bonfire to dance and warm up around. We slept in a big field with many others and turned into angry icecicles. In the morning we got a couple of rides and wound up right outside of eugene. The ride that took us through eugene was totally an old EFer. He didnapos;t say so but it was pretty evident. I must say, we were hoping for one of those in eugene... We were standing on the side of the road with our CALI sign for about 20 minutes when a car-full of hippie people and dogs pulled up. They said they were heading to eugene to a barter post theyapos;d heard about but saw us and decided to turn around. They were heading to cali but werenapos;t sure where and decided to just trek all the way down to santa cruz with us. We camped with them for a few nights and listened to a lot of grateful dead, haha. One of the dogs, solstice, was a very pregnant lady. As soon as she discovered luna, on our second day together, she totally fixated on her. She would nuzzle her throuhg my shirt and lick her when she could get close enough. That same day, the kids we were with (who, by the way, were named jungle bob, sobe, and jank :P), realized that solstice was due to have her babies way sooner than they thought, and should be birthing in the next few days. The next morning we ran out hella early from our campsite without paying (<3)and decided to push through to SC. I knew that day that she was going to have her babies that night. I saw it in her eyes and felt it in her dancing belly. Sure enough, lady started going into labor in the car at 11 that night. We pulled off to a gas station to pee and as soon as we got out of the car the first baby came. We got back in the car after the second pup and tried to get to a camp spot while she birthed a total of 7 pups in the backseat next to the pile of sobe, cory, and jax, a drum and a buncha travel packs. That was my first time ever being present for a live birth and it was an amazing experience. It was really high tension for me though, because i was really worried about her and the pupsapos; comfort and overall safety in this tiny cramped dinkycar. It was her first litter, and iapos;m really glad that i got to be a part of that experience...those kids were great.
we got into santa cruz yesterday and met up with a couple of the kids i know from folk life and oly and all. I wanna continue but i really need to go now. Iapos;m using the internet in the trailer park common room at the college and theyapos;re holding a meeting about the upcoming trailer park olympics. Itapos;s a cute scene with good energy but i feel a bit awkward.
love and rage,
jax(oxoxoxo)
